4140 HT (aka 4140 PH, 4140 Q&T) is prehardend to 28-32 Rockwell C hardness. It is a widely used medium carbon steel containing chromium and molybdenum, it commonly known as "chromoly". A general purpose alloy, offering the right combination of strength, toughness and hardness with good machinability.
